Sue Spaull lives and works in London and Cornwall She works in oil using neo-classical painting techniques. Sue exhibits in London and has had work shown in the Mall Galleries, as part of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition and in the Federation of British Artists’ Exhibition. She is Deputy Head of Painting at the Art Academy, London SE1.

Through her paintings, Sue aims to distil something of the essence of a person or a place or an experience. Each painting is an attempt to capture a recognisable ‘moment’ or ‘truth’ that will resonate with the viewer, echoing something they also know. In her portraits, Sue encourages the viewer to explore issues of identity (both personal and shared), in the context of societal norms and assumptions.
